Emotionally

Coming out of an unhealthy relationship can take a profound toll on our emotional wellbeing, leaving us feeling vulnerable, alone, and uncertain in our future. Recovering from this difficult experience is integral for nurturing self-love and putting your health first. It's OK to feel overwhelmed; it’s completely normal to face feelings of fear or sadness in the process. But when we look within ourselves, we can find the strength and courage to cope with any emotions that arise and start taking steps toward healing. As we learn from our experience, the path forward becomes clearer and we become open to establishing meaningful relationships with ourselves and others that are based on trust, respect, and understanding.

Mentally

Taking the time to bring yourself back to a healthy and balanced mental state after being in an unhealthy relationship is vitally important. It can be easy to fall into a spiral of self-doubt and negativity, but what is even more important is recognising that it’s ok to ask for help. Self-compassion and self-love are two essential steps on your healing journey. You don’t have to feel ashamed or guilty about taking plenty of time for yourself so that you can start rebuilding a healthier version of your life—you deserve this! Extending yourself kindness, understanding, and forgiveness are all necessary components of the healing process which will lay the foundation for a better tomorrow.

Physically

Once an unhealthy relationship has come to an end, it is important to also prioritise healing for yourself on a physical level. Taking care of your body will not just benefit you physically, but also emotionally and mentally. It can take time to feel normal again after being in an unhealthy relationship, but making sure that you prioritise self-care, physical exercise, and nourishing food can be great support in processing feelings and regaining balance. Knowing that you are taking steps toward bringing your body back into health can be a huge source of comfort during this difficult time.
